  About Hainan Medical University

Hainan Medical University (HMU) is a university established in 1993 with the approval of the central government, which offers degrees in medicine. Its predecessors are Haiqiang Medical Vocational School set up in 1947 by Mr. Xiaohai Lin and the Medical College of Hainan University established in 1948 by Mr. Tseven Soong. With the school motto of "virtue, rigor, erudition, harmony", HMU is committed to cultivating students in their post capability and leadership skills, enhancing their distinctive talents.

HMU covers an area of 420 000 square meters. The total enrollment at present is over 14 000 students, including 11 604 full-time students, and 393 overseas students. It provides 26 bachelor's degree programs and 3 master's degree programs, and has 4 affiliated hospitals and 84 teaching (practicing) bases. Besides, the university has offered overseas education with majors including clinical medicine, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, and nursing; and has also established international cooperation with the University of Utah (USA), Newcastle University (UK), Queensland University of Technology (Australia) in the fields of undergraduates exchanging postgraduate and doctorate students collective cultivating. Since it was founded, HMU has trained more than 40 000 students. Graduates from HMU are now working in over 10 different countries and regions including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

The present staff number of HMU is 2 472, with 510 professors and specialists. 73% of the 514 full-time teachers hold master's or doctor's degrees, and 57 of them are professors, 126 are associate professors. One is listed among the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, 14 have been entitled for the special subsidy from the State Council, 5 have entered the "Program for New Century Excellent Talents" under the Ministry of Education, 6 are vice chairmen of the secondary national academic committees under the Chinese Medical Association and other academic associations, 11 are members of the standing committee or the council, and 18 are chairmen or directors of the provincial academic committees.

Over the past 6 years, the university has 459 papers included by SCI, EI, ISTP, 47 academic books published and 58 textbooks compiled. Up to now, it has conducted 37 natural sciences research projects. There are 5 journals sponsored by HMU: Journal of Hainan University (Chinese version), Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine, Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine, Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction and Journal of Acute Disease. Journal of Hainan University (Chinese version) comes out on top among China university journals, while Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine and Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine have been included by SCI.

Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, a publication of Hainan Medical University, is a peer-reviewed print + online Bimonthly journal. The journal's full text is available online at http://www.apjr.net. The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository.

Digital Archiving

Wolters Kluwer Medknow provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS.

Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website.

CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain their own archive of content from Wolters Kluwer Medknow and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware.

Ahead of Print policy

Articles published online under the Ahead of Print model are considered published and can be cited and quoted using the DOI as the reference source. Wolters Kluwer Medknow has a policy that changes will not be made after publication of an article without following accepted procedures for making corrections to the scientific record.


While advertisements are crucial to this journal to be able to keep all content free for everyone, ethical considerations are in place to ensure the integrity of the journal and its content:

  • "Pop-up" and "banner" ads appear on a random, rotating basis. The advertiser has no control or input over the pages where their ads appear.
  • The Editorial Board has full and final approval over the content of all advertisements.
  • Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.

  Scope of the journal

The Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction publishes original researches, commentaries and reviews on topics in the basic, transitional and clinical science of reproduction, including: reproductive physiology and pathology, reproductive endocrinology, andrology, gonad function, gametogenesis, fertilization, embryo development, implantation, early pregnancy, reproductive genetics, genetic diagnosis, reproductive oncology, contraception, infertility treatment, psychology and counselling, ethics and social issues. Studies in humans, animal and plant species are all considered.
